MONDAY MOOD BOARD – Murphy’s Law
We all are familiar with Murphy’s Law. Ever wondered where it originates? The term has been coined at Edwards Air Force Base. Please visit this site to read the details. It is quite entertaining!

Here are a few Murphy’s laws that hit me personally in the past few weeks:
THE LEGIBILITY OF A COPY IS INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO ITS IMPORTANCE
Or a scan, in this case. I spent a good amount of time finding and scanning the documents (about 20 pages) that needed to be sent urgently to our pet relocation agency, only to receive an email saying that the quality of the scans is so poor they cannot read it.
IF THERE IS A WORSE TIME FOR SOMETHING TO GO WRONG, IT WILL HAPPEN THEN
We will be moving in a few weeks. So what better time than now for things to break down:
I had a car accident that left my car as total loss.
The dishwasher decided to not want to close the door properly any more. Now I have to supervise it during the wash cycle, otherwise the kitchen will flood. Actually, it will only flood if I step out for a moment, when I watch, it works perfectly!
The landline phone has apparently reached the end of it’s life expectancy and will not charge any more. Not only can I not place important international calls, I also do not receive calls that let me know somebody is at the gate. The intercom (using the term loosely, because I still have to walk outside to open the gate to the lotissement since there is no corresponding button inside the house) is connected to said landline.
IN STORES, THE OTHER LINE ALWAYS MOVES FASTER
This applies especially when you are in a hurry. But if you change lines, the cashier will infallibly run out of paper for the register, encounter a problem with a price, or has to count her change to hand over to the supervisor. Meanwhile, the line you have been in originally moves smoothly ahead.
IF YOU FORGET TO SAVE YOUR WORK EVERY 5 MINUTES, THE PROGRAM WILL BREAK DOWN AFTER YOU’VE BEEN AT IT FOR AN HOUR
I have been copy-editing a review article my husband had written. Procrastinator that I am, I was already late finishing it. Shortly after midnight, a few pages before I was done, word decides it has had enough for this day and shuts down. Leaving me with hours of lost work and a missed dead line.
ANY TIME YOU PUT AN ITEM IN A “SAFE PLACE”, IT WILL NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN
A couple of months ago, I took off my wedding band and put it in a safe place, one where it cannot get lost. Guess what???
IF A PROGRAM IS USEFUL, IT WILL HAVE TO BE CHANGED
There have been some new changes implemented on etsy.com, some useful, some less so. One of them makes it now impossible to search for shops in Lyon. Their previous ‘shop local’ feature worked perfectly, but why leave something that runs smoothly when you have the means to change it to something buggy?
A PART DROPPED FROM A WORKBENCH WILL ROLL TO A DEGREE OF UN-REACHABILITY PROPORTIONAL TO ITS IMPORTANCE
I made a new necklace the other day. I had the exact number of stones left for this particular design. So, of course, I had to drop one of them. Crawling on all fours under the table, looking in every corner, I retrieved 2 beads I had lost weeks ago, 1 bus ticket, 3 coins, and a handful of dog hair. The stone I was looking for is still MIA. Well, we will be moving soon, so it will turn up eventually. (and yes, I know, I am not the best house keeper)
WEST IS ALWAYS EAST OF SOMEWHERE
YOU’RE ONLY LOST IF YOU ADMIT IT
Anybody who has ever been a passenger in my car has probably heard me say that 😉
AUTO CORRECT – ISN’T
And here is the proof: damnyouautocorrect.com
Well, at least I have never encountered this one:
The most ominous words for those using computers: “MOM, WHAT DOES ‘NOW FORMATTING DRIVE C’ MEAN ?? “
